Expedition, the meeting point to promote innovation and entrepreneurs

In Mexico, entrepreneurial talent continues to grow exponentially, as there are more and more innovative projects that allow solving the country’s problems; however, the project may not work due to not having the correct advice or the space to carry it out. Given this, Expedition was born, a center for entrepreneurs develop their ideasdetail them and take off in the best way, all starting from the scientific field.

Hugo Garza, vice president of strategic projects at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, explained that this new center, created by the educational institution in the north of the country, aims to provide a place for entrepreneurs and scientistswhether they are students, academics, investors or from other parts of the country, can meet to develop innovative ideas and, at the same time, meet other actors in the Mexican ecosystem.

“It is a space that will allow the community to develop innovation based on science. Here, there will be methodologies to generate research ideas, make prototypes, tests and to be able to scale the project. It is a space to have the necessary talent”, he stated in an interview with El Economista.

He explained that Expeditionlocated at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Nuevo León, will not only be a work center for entrepreneurs, but will also work to refine the projects, provide training, advice and with the coexistence that is generated, create alliances with important players in each sector. Companies can even rent spaces to develop their projects and attract Mexican talent.

One of the laboratories that is already in operation is the Future Design Lab, where specialists from different sectors and even from other parts of the country work to help discover the ideas of entrepreneurs so that they learn to validate them, shape them and work on climbing them.

The objectives

Garza indicated that it is expected to bring together talent from all areas and three axes to work are a priority, based on the current world situation:

1. Education: it seeks to work for an education that impacts society and for this, there is the institute for the future of education, from which projects have already emerged that allow solving problems, as well as research.
2. Obesity: there is the Institute for Obesity Research, where we work on how to address diabetes, metabolism, causes, impacts, among others, in order to join efforts from different disciplines to find better solutions
3. sustainable world: to achieve a sustainable future for the next 100 years, there is the institute for the development of advanced materials for sustainable manufacturing. The objective is to study how to develop more effective materials with less negative impact on the environment.

“There may be other ideas and other problems can be discussed, but the three main big problems that we are going to focus on are these, for which the work of the academic, social, entrepreneurial, and all sectors is required.”

Expedition is part of phase two of DistritoTec, a center that is responsible for linking entrepreneurs with institutions with companies, and will be available until the summer of 2024; however, more than 1,000 people from the scientific sector and entrepreneurs They are already operating in the different laboratories.
