Political science expert at the University of Illinois, Edward Fagan, considered that the establishment of former US President Donald Trump a new party would lead to a split among Republican supporters.
Fagan said in an interview with the Russian “Novosti” agency: “In the event that Donald Trump establishes a reliable” national party “to compete with the Republicans, he will probably harm the Republican Party.

He added, “Trump will divide the Republican Party voters, and the Democrats will be able to win the majority.”
He recalled the 1968 elections, when Alabama Governor George Wools established his own party, leading to a split in Democrats and the victory of Republican Richard Nixon in the election.
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources, that Trump had discussed with his close associates the establishment of a new party under the name of the National Party.
