Under the above heading, Eurasia Daily published an article about what was published about Turkish plans to control Russian regions.
The article reads: A Turkish TV channel presented a map of the expansion of Turkey’s geopolitical influence, including in the regions of southern Russia and the North Caucasus. This is a provocative step that has no logical basis, according to experts interviewed by Eurasia Daily.
In this regard, the director of the political department of the Center for the Study of New Turkey, Yuri Mwashev, said: “The origin of this story is a traditional falsity. What was presented is a study conducted by the American Stratfor Research Center, not government think tanks like SETA. ”This, according to him, is a message that aims to arouse unhealthy interest in Russian political circles, and could exacerbate tense relations, in practice and without, between Russia and Turkey.
However, in reality, every year Turkey works to consolidate and expand its influence in other countries and regions, including through the use of a policy of “soft power”.
Here, Valdai club expert Farhad Ibrahimov said: “This phenomenon of“ soft power ”is observed on the territory of Russia, too: in the form of Turkish schools, Turkish cinema, and tourism. In this regard, Turkey is successfully working to promote its interests.
As for the more aggressive scenario of the development of events, experts believe that it is less realistic and does not have a serious and deep ground.
According to Musashev, “In Turkey, international policy makers are realistic, and no one needs to take over the North Caucasus. It makes no sense.”
As for Ibrahimov, he believes that Turkey, in order to achieve pragmatic goals in the form of expanding its sphere of influence on the territory of Russia, will not spoil its relations with one of the most important players in the region and international actors.
He said, “Even if Turkey develops its interests, it will be restricted to the regions in which it competes with Russia, but it will not invade Russia’s territory in order to expand its influence.”
