Globalization and technological progress have made productivity more dependent on a set of technological and digital skills.
Why think about the future, if it doesn’t exist? The answer is: “The future is no longer future. The future is the present.” And thinking about the future of technological progress –which is exponential– becomes urgent. As Fabio Bertranou, director of the International Labor Organization (ILO), already said: work will no longer be the same. Digitization and automation are changing the work landscape around the world by leaps and bounds.
In Latin America, the lack of people who know how to take advantage of these technologies is slowing down their use. This is what a document from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) says. Of the 28 Latin American and Caribbean countries analyzed in UNCTAD’s “Report on Technology and Information 2021”, none has a high level of preparation for new technologies.
The future of work has become a priority issue for analysts and futurists. The impact of exponential technologies on employment and their economic, social, political and cultural effects reach an unthinkable dimension and speed. In this context, México Exponencial (Mx) was born. It is a center for thought and action to promote discussion and analysis on the future of the country with an emphasis on exponential technologies.
The foregoing through five strategic lines; 1) Strategic Governance for an exponential society, 2) Exponential Environments, 3) Exponential Economy, 4) Sustainability, and finally a new and important area: digital finance (also known as Fintech).
A few days ago, the Fintech area of México Exponencial organized the forum “Digital Finance: The challenges and opportunities of digital onboarding”. The event aimed to share experiences and learning in the matter, as well as the challenges of giving access to a greater number of participants to the Fintech system. High-level authorities and experts in the field intervened. It was organized and moderated by the Fintech Coordinator, Eduardo Turrent Mena.
All the participants had an outstanding performance, too extensive to expose it in this installment (but it can be consulted on the México Exponencial website).
By way of a brief conclusion: Fintechs encourage the inclusion of sectors that had previously been outside the financial system. However, the representatives of the authorities emphasized the search for an essential balance between innovation and risk mitigation.
The efforts of organizations such as México Exponencial are essential to promote the digital revolution that will allow emerging countries to pick up the pace, promote technological change and promote innovation, education, training, digitization, infrastructure and sustainability.
