Extinction Rebellion protesters have caused peak hour traffic chaos after assembling a tripod at the exit of a major Melbourne freeway.
The climate change demonstrators erected the structure early on Friday morning using metal poles with one member of the group sitting atop the tripod.
The man is holding a sign saying ‘We refused to be the last generation’.
Police are in attendance at the area as an unfolding traffic disaster at the Kings Way exit of the West Gate Freeway in the city’s south east.

Traffic is now at a standstill and police are urging people travelling into the CBD to avoid the scene and exit either at the Bolte, Power Street, Montague Street or Todd Road.
The tripod was set up just before 8am on Friday morning before police received reports of the protest blocking the freeway exit.

The protesters were pretending to be ‘dead’ covered by white blankets as they call for action from policy makers on the worsening climate crisis.
The individuals lying on the ground have labels attached to their feet suggesting they died of a ‘climate crisis death’.
Others have been standing on the steps of the building bizarrely dressed in red outfits with white painted faces.
They also protested outside News Corp headquarters in the city’s CBD, saying the Rupert Murdoch-led media empire have been harmful climate deniers.
