Ryan Seacrest is sporting a new look in this season’s American Idol promo! The TV host donned facial hair and a longer slicked-back hairstyle as he appeared in a video teasing the show’s upcoming season.
In the clip shared on American Idol’s official Instagram account on January 8, Ryan, 50, rocked a beard and a mustache with longer locks, a look that fans are not used to seeing. The Wheel of Fortune host also wore a tropical print button-down shirt with jeans and tan boots, a change from his usual suit or business casual attire.
His mom, Connie Seacrest, surprised him with a message in the video.
“Surprise, it’s your biggest fan,” she said in the video, as Ryan turned around to face the screen in shock.
“Mom, what show is this?” he asked her in the video before she uttered her rendition of her son’s famous line, “This is American Idol.”
“Can’t beat it,” Ryan said at the end of the clip with a megawatt smile on his face.
In the comments section, many pointed out that Ryan’s look was not the norm for the entertainment mogul.
“Ryan with the facial hair,” one person wrote with a shocked face emoji, while another person said, “Love the beard and longer hair.”
“Bearded @ryanseacrest wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card,” another person wrote in the comments section. “Can’t wait for the new season of @americanidol!”
American Idol will return for season 23 on March 9 with a new addition to the long-running singing competition series. New judge Carrie Underwood will be joining Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on the judging panel for the very first time. The country music songstress is replacing Katy Perry after her departure from the series.
Carrie, 41, won season 4 of American Idol in 2005. She’s since taken over the country music scene with hits like “Before He Cheats,” “Blown Away,” “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and more.
Ryan shared his enthusiasm for welcoming Carrie back onto the show two decades after her American Idol win.
“It’s a full-circle moment to go from announcing you as the winner of [American Idol] 20 years ago to now welcoming you to the judge’s table,” he wrote on Instagram. “Welcome home, @carrieunderwood !”
In October 2024, an insider dished to Life & Style about what was going on behind the scenes ahead of the American Idol’s season 23 premiere.
“Everyone’s glad Carrie’s joined the panel,” an insider told the outlet. “She’s not only a huge talent who contributes so much to the show but she’s a sweetheart to boot, but Ryan’s taking his idolatry to a crazy level.”
“She’s quite nervous and wants to do her best job and Ryan’s appointed himself Carrie’s guiding light,” the source added. “She’s his favorite, he gives her most if not all his attention, when she speaks, he’s all ears.”
The source went on to say that Lionel, 75, and Luke, 48, were both “spellbound by Carrie” and that Ryan is “determined to make Carrie a success” on the show as a judge.
