Birth and upbringing
Fayez Muhammad Hamad Al-Duwairi was born on March 3, 1952, in the town of Kutum in the Irbid Governorate in northern Jordan.
His family was a rural family that practiced agriculture and herding, and he grew up in that environment.
The town in which he was born is located between two larger towns, Al-Hisn and Al-Naimah, and he has 7 siblings, 4 males and 3 females.
Al-Duwairi describes himself as “Jordanian with Jordanian ancestors, and I am proud of that, but I do not allow anyone from Jaffa or Tulkarm to question my position on Palestine or my conviction that Palestine is my cause as it is theirs.”
Scientific formation
Fayez Al-Duwairi received his primary education in the schools of the town of Kutum, and completed the preparatory stage in a school in the Al-Naima area, 4 kilometers from his village of Kutum, then he completed the secondary stage in the Al-Hosn area.
Al-Duwairi says In an interview with Al Jazeera Net After this period, “I had several options, including going to university, and this was my favorite option, because I had an old dream, which was to be a professor at the university, but the circumstances and circumstances existing during that period of poverty, want, and need were burdening my family and brothers. Because there are 3 older brothers than me, and therefore they are the ones who bear the burden, so the other option was for me to apply to what is known as the Military College.”
He was accepted into the accounting major at the University of Jordan, before joining the Military College between 1972 and 1973, where he graduated and rose from the rank of lieutenant to brigadier general. Then he joined the engineering corps of the Jordanian Armed Forces, and became director of the Royal Engineering Corps.
He was selected for the education corps in the Royal Engineers Corps, where he was a training wing commander, chief trainer, school commander, and teacher at the Command and Staff College, then a supervisor at the War College, and then he became commander of the Command and Staff College.
At a later stage, after completing some military missions, Al-Duwairi trained at the US Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies, and became the first officer specializing in strategic planning and the art of war management from outside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
He then attended the Military Command and Staff College for a year, and was then sent to Pakistan to attend an international course at the Pakistan Command and Staff College.
After his retirement in 2005, he joined the University of Jordan and obtained a doctorate in educational philosophy, for a thesis entitled “The Role of Public Universities in Promoting the Concept of National Security.”
Professional career
Al-Duwairi participated in the operation to clear mines on the Syrian-Jordanian border after joining the Jordanian Engineering Corps, and his role in that participation became prominent.
Then he moved to Yemen from 1977 to 1979, and worked with the Yemeni Armed Forces as an engineering officer to fortify the Bab al-Mandab Strait and build “Camp Khaled” in Hodeidah.
After returning to Jordan in 1979, Al-Duwairi enrolled at Yarmouk University to study business administration. He also studied at the Command and Staff College after his return from Pakistan.
He was appointed Director of the Jordanian Royal Engineers Corps, then Commander of the Jordanian Command and Staff College with the rank of Major General, and remained in that position until his retirement in 2005.
Military analysis
Al-Duwairi – who was nicknamed “Abu Jamal” – devoted his writings to military analysis, and his fame increased after his frequent television appearances, participating in military analysis and strategies used in regional wars and conflicts.
He participated in analyzing topics including the future of NATO, Russia’s return to the Arab world, arms deals, the nuclear arms race, the Russian war on Ukraine, and other topics.
Since the beginning of his television appearances on Al Jazeera to analyze the performance of the Palestinian resistance against the occupation forces, the masses considered Al-Duwairi’s words to be no less important than the words of Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman Abu Ubaida.
Fayez Al-Duwairi is described by political analysts and activists as “causing a headache for the Israelis.” He had participated in a television interview with Eddie Cohen, and embarrassed him by saying that the picture of the sewer cover (manhole) in Jaffa bore the word Palestine in 1936, which means that the manhole cover is 12 years older than the State of Israel.
“Solve or Round”
Retired Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi was known for his optimistic assessment of the performance of the Palestinian resistance after the Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
He confirms that the resistance’s targeting of basic Israeli vehicles (such as Merkava tanks and Tiger armored vehicles) in the ground battle against Gaza at close range; He confirms that the Israeli occupation forces are “fighting ghosts.”
He adds that the Israeli soldier is in complete contrast to the Palestinian resistance fighter, because he enters the battle protected by these huge mechanisms, and with great fear for his life, which exposes him to great psychological pressure.
According to Al-Duwairi, the Israeli soldier realizes that he is moving towards death, and is fighting without protection against an opponent who is ready to do anything for victory.
When Al-Duwairi talks about Gaza, his voice echoes with pride, saying, “There is nothing like it in military history from Alexander the Great until today.”
The Al-Qassam Brigades published a clip on December 25, 2023, in which one of its fighters shouted, “Come on, Duwairi.” The clip showed the success of Al-Qassam fighters in targeting a house with a cock stone, in which 10 Israeli soldiers were hiding, and that area was located on the northern Gaza border. Secured by the Israeli army since the first days of the ground invasion.
The targeted area then turned into a huge ball of flame and smoke, and the Israeli army suffered casualties and injuries as a result of this strike, according to the Al-Qassam Brigades.
Major General Al-Duwairi responded to the Al-Qassam fighter’s appeal during the military analysis segment on Al-Jazeera by saying, “I will analyze,” repeating Al-Qassami’s cry, “Analyze, Duwairi.”
Books and writings
Al-Duwairi published his first book in 2013, “National Security,” in which he reviewed concepts and analyzes about national security and the importance of educational institutions in strengthening this security.
