For the second consecutive month, femicide crimes rose in the country, with a total of 711 victims between January and September of this year.
According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), during the month of September, femicide crimes increased by 11.4%, going from 70 to 78 investigation files between August and September of this year.
It should be noted that 342 of the victims, that is, 48%, were killed with a firearm or knife.
According to official data, June is the month with the highest number of femicides with 93 registered cases.
Homicides also rise
According to figures from the Executive Secretariat, the crime of intentional homicide increased 1.7% between August and September of this year, going from 2,220 investigations in the first month to 2,258 for the last.
In total, 23,351 people have been killed in the last 9 months of 2022; the vast majority (70%) was by firearm.
Likewise, data from the federal government highlights that, from January to September 2022, a decrease of 8.1% in this crime was achieved, compared to the same period in 2021, in addition to 11.2% less compared to the same period in 2020; 10.3% less compared to 2019 and 7.6% less compared to 2018.
And as in past months, during September of this year, six states concentrated 48.9% of the crimes of intentional homicide in the entire country: Guanajuato, Baja California, the State of Mexico, Michoacán, Jalisco and Chihuahua.
At the municipal level, it was said that the number of intentional homicides in the 50 priority municipalities in January-September 2022 decreased 12.7% compared to January-September 2021.
And although it was highlighted that 33 municipalities registered a decrease of 20.8% on average, in 16 they registered an increase of 12% on average.
In total, in these localities, between January and September 2022, 9,223 homicides were recorded, that is, a daily average of 34 murders.
Low in other crimes
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, presented this Thursday the monthly security report during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
He pointed out that from January to September 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, tax crimes have decreased by 22.2%; financial at 13.7%; against health in 15.9%; hydrocarbon theft by 92%, allowing an estimated saving of more than 231,027 million pesos.
He explained that with regard to common law crimes, kidnapping was reduced by 72.4% and 2,090 victims were released; In addition, 4,630 kidnappers were arrested and 524 gangs were dismantled.
However, despite the fact that a considerable number of kidnapping victims have been released, official data indicates that in nine months only 380 investigation files have been opened for this crime.
