Cancun, QRoo.- The State Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) has already confirmed the death of two people of Canadian origin after receiving bullet wounds inside the hotel xcaret mexico, in the Mayan Riviera.
One more person also of Canadian origin is injured, but his health status has not been reported.
The bodies of the three people were left lying on the floor, in one of the hotel restaurants, in the midst of screaming and crying, according to video images broadcast on social networks.
“The first person who lost his life, whose initials are ATCH, had a criminal record: drug trafficking, false identity use -among others-. The death of another person who was injured, with initials RJD, who also had a criminal record, is confirmed,” according to the FGE through its Twitter account.
The subject who opened fire against the other three people was captured on security cameras and the images were circulated on social networks. According to FGE, the aggressor “apparently was also staying (at the Xcaret México hotel). During the transfer to the hospital, one of the people lost his life. According to information from the Canadian police, it is known that this subject had a long history related to robberies, drugs, weapons, crimes.
The probable perpetrator fled, entering the jungle. The authorities that make up the Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security mounted a special search operation at the hotel and the federal highway. The municipal police ordered the canine unit made up of specialized dogs, but so far no arrests have been reported.
Grupo Xcaret issued a brief statement regretting the events. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We are providing support to those affected by this event. Apparently it is a directed and isolated event and we are fully cooperating with the authorities for its prompt clarification.
“For the moment, we will not make any additional comments so as not to interfere with the authorities’ investigation,” reads a document signed by Iliana Rodríguez, contact with the company’s media.
