A New Orleans woman is the last of the known 14 victims killed in a New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street to be identified.
LaTasha Polk, 47, lived in the Treme and was described as a hard working nurse’s assistant. She had a 14-year-old son, her family said.
Polk’s identity was confirmed by her brother, Raynell Bates, and her aunt, Kim Polk. They were in attendance at a Saturday night French Quarter vigil honoring the victims who died in the early-morning truck attack.
The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas, was shot and killed at the scene after a shootout with police.
Jabbar drove a white Ford 1-50 with homemade explosives inside nearly 3 blocks, mowing down dozens of New Year’s Day revelers.
Polk was celebrating the holiday with her brother, Printisis Polk, who is still missing, their family members said Saturday.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has yet to formally identify LaTasha Polk as the final unnamed victim.
