As expected, heavier lake effect snow moved across the immediate Central New York area with 6 to 12 inches of snow from Friday night into Saturday afternoon alongside a blustery cold wind!
Unfortunately, the gusty wind will continue for everyone Saturday night into Sunday before diminishing Sunday night through Monday. This will cause blowing and drifting of snow for those who have received it.
Looking ahead, additional heavy bouts of lake effect snow will continue Saturday night through Sunday morning over portions of our area, but not everywhere.
Newest information still suggests that the heaviest snow will occur across Oswego and central and northern Oneida counties Saturday night through Sunday morning before the bands sag ever so slowly southwestward midday Sunday through Sunday evening across the rest of the immediate Central New York area.
With that in mind, here are our next weather makers:
Let’s start with the first item. How much more snow will occur? Let’s start with a zoomed in look.
New snow between 7:00 PM Saturday & 7:00 PM Sunday zoomed in to parts of CNY:
Below you will find the same time period of snow forecast just a wider area.
New snow between 7:00 PM Saturday & 7:00 PM Sunday for much of Upstate NY:
For Sunday night, as mentioned above, there should only be some residual light lake effect snow to give another coating to an inch or two or three for most spots.
A notable snow, ice and rainstorm that will traverse the country will end up missing Upstate New York. Otherwise, expect a cold but quiet Monday with light wind. Filtered sunshine mixes with clouds. The best chance for minor lake effect flurries or snow showers will be over Wayne county.
Even though that storm will miss us, it will drag down more cold air for the rest of the upcoming workweek and back-to-school week!
At this early juncture, expect a persistent spray of light to moderate lake effect snow and flurries from Monday night through Friday morning with a likelihood of light accumulations every 12 hours.
Either way, this current batch of wintry cold is here to stay for a while!
