Sony has officially announced an Alpha camera launch event for next week, fueling speculation about the imminent arrival of the highly anticipated A7 V. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser image shared on the Sony Alpha Germany Instagram account.
The image, a silhouette of a new camera body, was originally posted by Munich-based photographer and videographer Jonas Wakewood, suggesting he may have access to a pre-release model. Although the Instagram Story has since been removed, it was captured and shared by the website Sony Alpha Rumors. The dramatically lit photo reveals a camera with a full-frame sensor and a distinct A7 logo, strongly indicating it is the long-rumored successor to the Sony A7 IV, which was released in 2021.
Confirming the launch, Sony’s main electronics and camera accounts have scheduled an event for December 2, 2025, at 9 am EST / 2 pm GMT. The company is promoting the reveal with the tagline “Chase your dream,” with the A7 V expected to be the main highlight.
Rumors suggest the A7 V will feature a 33MP full-frame sensor, similar in resolution to its predecessor but likely enhanced with faster readout speeds or improved image stabilization. The most significant upgrade is expected to be a dedicated AI processing unit, designed to deliver advanced subject detection and autofocus tracking. Other potential improvements include a more powerful image processor for faster continuous shooting and an upgrade to video capabilities, possibly offering 4K recording at up to 120fps.
Official specifications, pricing, and availability for the new camera are expected to be confirmed during the event next week.
