Director Shawn Levy has shared a first look at his upcoming Lucasfilm movie, Star Wars: Starfighter, with a photo from the set in the Mediterranean Sea. The image, posted on his Instagram account, features stars Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray.
Set five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the film is an original story that exists outside the main Skywalker saga. The script was written by Jonathan Tropper.
Gosling leads an ensemble cast that includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
Levy is producing the film with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The executive producers are Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen. Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
The next theatrical release for the franchise will be The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is slated for a May 22, 2026 release. The new films follow the significant box office success of the sequel trilogy. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) holds the fourth-highest domestic opening of all time with $247.9 million, while The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019) launched with massive global debuts of $450.8 million and $373.5 million, respectively.
