Fonatur initiates housing actions to relocate families that are on the Mayan Train route

Along with the construction of the Mayan trendone of the most important infrastructure works of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Comprehensive Development Plan is carried out in the towns that the convoy will cross.

According to the general director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (It is called), Javier May Rodríguez, so far, the plan includes 432 works in 127 locations in 34 municipalities of Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

Among the actions that have been carried out, the official highlighted 4,152 housing stock for families relocated by the right of way of the train.

“It is a very important action by the Government of Mexico that demonstrates that the Mayan Train is not an imposed work or dispossession, but is carried out with dialogue and agreements,” said the official.

A total of 3,800 of the actions are support for home improvement and 352 are new homesdelivered to be inhabited by 253 families in Campeche, 71 in Tabasco, 22 in Yucatán and six in Quintana Roo.

It should be remembered that, in 2021, Fonatur entered the Acquisition Program for the relocations of human settlements in the right-of-way of the Mayan Train into the Investment Project Portfolio of the Ministry of Finance.

At that time, a budget of 3,579 million pesos was requested for this purpose, since at least 2,294 properties were identified with one or more households that must be relocated, which represented mobilizing 3,286 households.

In addition to the housing stockthe Comprehensive Comprehensive Development Plan provides for the improvement of streets, roads, public and recreational spaces.

Yucatán is the state with the largest number of works carried out so far, there are 210 social actions that have been carried out; Campeche follows with 147. In Chiapas, 26 educational and health infrastructure actions have been carried out, 31 in Tabasco and 18 in Quintana Roo.

May Rodríguez declared that all these works are additional to the wellness programs applied by the Government of Mexico, and are based on a democratic scheme where the participation of the communities is considered.

“In all cases, the men and women of the communities have integrated Social Comptrollership committees to monitor the work, which is being completed in short terms, in which we put an end to bureaucratism and, of course, we do not allow corruption” , affirmed the head of Fonatur.

Finally, it was reported that the vocation of the railway project also allows meeting the needs of various communities to communicate with the Internet.

In this sense, May Rodríguez explained that 83 requests for connection to the network have been received, of which 48 have already been attended with the installation of the service, especially in schools, the other 35 are in process.
