In 2020, Russia recorded a record in the field of food and agricultural exports, as more food was exported than it imported, for the first time since the end of the Soviet era.
According to a report by “Novosti” agency, the demand for Russian food and agricultural products increased last year due to the Corona pandemic, as many countries feared a disruption in shipments, so they increased purchases.
The report indicated that demand has increased for sunflower oil, meat, poultry, dairy products and sweets.
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture showed that Russia exported 79 million tons of foodstuffs worth 30.7 billion dollars last year, an increase of 20% over the year 2019.
On the other hand, Russia imported agricultural and food supplies worth $ 29.7 billion, thus exports exceeded imports for the first time since the end of the Soviet era.
Regarding the reasons for achieving this, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture clarifies that the harvest was good last year despite the bad weather, as the crop of cereals, including rice and buckwheat, reached a record.
In addition to the increase in external demand due to the Coronavirus pandemic, as agricultural and food products were exported to about 150 countries in the world.
