It was reported in this context that the design of the “F-35” was, against a background of increased competition, significantly complicated, which slowed development, increased costs and reduced confidence in the project.
In sum, the Air Force commanders had to accept the fact that they could not replace the F-16s that were time-tested with the same number of F-35s, and the military would not rule out that they would be forced to launch a new program.
“Forbes” says in this regard: “The talk on the part of the US Air Force about the need to create new light fighters is a tacit admission that the F-35 Lightning 2 program has failed.”
The authors assume that, even if the US Air Force made such an attempt, the same scenario would likely be repeated, and the new fighter would not replace the F-16s, and it would again be expensive, unreliable and modest like the F-35.
