Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said that the Russian-Qatari relations are strategic, pointing out that Doha has become one of the largest investors in Russia from the Middle East countries.
The Qatari minister stressed, in a speech before his meeting with his Russian counterpart, in Moscow, today, Wednesday, that “relations with Russia are strategic and close, and we value the recent development of cooperation between the two countries in all fields.”
He added that Qatar has become one of the largest investors in Russia from the Middle East countries. “We appreciate the active role of Russia with regard to regional issues.”
The Qatari-Russian relations witnessed a remarkable development in the investment side over the past years, especially after Doha bought a share of the shares of the Russian oil giant “Rosneft” for 10.5 billion euros, and this deal was the largest in the global energy market in 2016.
But the trade exchange between Doha and Moscow is not commensurate with the volume of investments, and according to ITC Tradre website data, the volume of trade between the two countries in 2019 amounted to about $ 83 million only, while it was in 2017 at the level of $ 73.3 million.
