Former Administrative Director of Segalmex linked to process

The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) reported that a federal judge linked to the process René Gavira Segresteformer head of the Mexican Food Security Administration and Finance Unit (Segalmex) for illicit use of attributions and faculties when granting contracts and authorizing illicit purchases.

Segalmex is a decentralized public body, with its own personality and assets, created by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the beginning of his government to create food reserves.

The Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (Femdo) obtained a link to the process from a judge. In 2019, René Gavira probably signed the renewal of a contract as Legal Representative and Head of the Administration and Finance Unit of Liconsa, which allowed him, from 2019 to 2020, to authorize various acquisitions estimated to be illicit with economic content with public resources. , since it contravenes the provisions of articles 45 and 46 of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration.

Due to the foregoing, an indictment hearing was held before the Control Judge attached to the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Mexico City, residing in the North Prison, in which it was requested that his process be linked to the aforementioned crime, when considering that the evidence exposed by the FGR confirmed the existence of the facts that the law indicates as a crime and the probability that the accused participated in the commission of the imputed conduct.

The Judge set a period of three months for the complementary investigation and the following precautionary measures were imposed on the defendant: a fortnightly signature before the Unit for Supervision of Precautionary Measures of the National Guard, prohibition to leave Mexico City and its metropolitan area and prohibition to approach witnesses.

“This is one of several cases under investigation against René Gavira, with another criminal case, for the probable improper use of public resources assigned to the body called Segalmex,” said the FGR.

Gavira held his position until June 30, 2020, the date on which he submitted his resignation.
