Ministry of Health observes “downward trend” in infections
On the morning of this January 25, the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, assured that there has been a decrease in infections in the framework of the fourth wave of Covid-19 that the country has been facing since it began. the 2022.
“Our well-known epidemic curve of weekly segregation gives us data that is preliminary, but it is encouraging if it continues as a trend. In the first weeks of 2022 we had very rapid increases in the number of cases due to the presence of the Omicron variant as the predominant one in Mexico; however, in epidemiological week number four, which is the one that opened yesterday, we see an increase of 12%; this is a substantial change, we are already beginning to see a change in the trend and this reduces the number or percentage of active cases to 5.9%; This, I insist, must be taken with caution, we report it in real time, but if it continues it could already be a change in the growth trend, therefore the growth rate of the epidemic is reduced,” said the official.
The undersecretary insisted that despite the fact that the highest number of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections has been registered in Mexico since the start of the pandemic in 2020, hospitals have not been saturated, nor has there been a substantial increase in deaths.
General bed occupancy stands at 44%, one percentage point more than what was reported yesterday; while ventilator beds for severe Covid-19 patients have an occupancy rate of 26 percent.
