Paris, Nov 29 (.) .- France is going to extend throughout 2022 the control it already exercises over all companies in sectors it considers strategic in which non-EU shareholders exceed 10% of capital.
The announcement was made this Monday by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, who in an interview with the channel France 2 pointed out that the device of “systematic control” that was to end on December 31 will remain in force for 12 more months.
“My responsibility is to protect French technologies, to protect the most strategic companies,” said Le Maire.
Initially, this supervision was exercised when non-community investments exceeded 25% of the shareholders, but that threshold was decided to lower to 10% from April 2020.
The minister said he was not worried “about the growth” of the economy in France due to the epidemic rebound that is spreading through Europe and the arrival of the new omicron variant of the coronavirus.
In his opinion, the recovery in France is based “on solid foundations” and his concern is directed at the supply difficulties in sectors such as the automobile or construction, the problems of hiring personnel, for example in the hotel and catering industry, or the inflationary tensions.
