A group of parrot breeders in Malaysia – calling themselves “Free Fly” – allocates a day for their parrots to fly and roam freely for a short period of about an hour, from time to time so that they do not remain captives of their cages or confinement at home, because the length of Trapping them leads to behavioral problems in the bird, such as feather plucking, biting and squawking.
Each bird released during this free-flying hour is equipped with a ring bearing its name and owner’s phone number to return to if lost, however most birds are well trained and return to their owners when called.
