French skateboarder Vincent Matheron was unable to hide his fury after a fall early in his final qualifying run at the Olympic Games ended his hopes of making the final.
The 26-year-old, who finished seventh at the Tokyo Games, needed to improve on his score of 82.02 which he had achieved on his first run at La Concorde.
The home crowd were in raptures as he composed him to begin what he hoped would be a storybook moment but just eight seconds into his effort, he fell off his board attempting to land an extravagant trick.
Matheron swiftly rose from the canvas and booted his helmet into the air in frustration.
The Frenchman’s journey may have ended but fans remained on tenterhooks as the remaining athletes made their bow for a spot in the final.

Defending champion Keegan Palmer sailed into the final with an outstanding third run which earned him a score of 93.10 – the best among the hopefuls.
Tokyo silver medallist Pedro Barros also earned himself a spot in Wednesday afternoon’s final. Though, the Brazilian could only put up the sixth-best score in what looks to set to be a thrilling final showdown.
Elsewhere, Americans Tom Schaar and Tate Carew as well as Italian Alex Sorgente and Australian Keefer Wilson rounded out the top five qualifiers.
