‘He’s a two-bob agent being amateurish’: Furious Steve Bruce blasts Miguel Almiron’s ‘hugely disrespectful’ rep for claiming he wants to leave Newcastle in bid to ‘make a fast buck again’ – just two years after arriving
- Daniel Campos said Miguel Almiron would have left Newcastle but for Covid-19
- Almiron’s agent also said the player was not being used in his best position
- But boss Steve Bruce hit back at Campos claims and labelled him ‘amateurish’
- Bruce also insisted he will discuss Almiron’s representative’s comments with him
Steve Bruce has hit out at the ‘two-bob’ agent of Miguel Almiron after claiming he wants to quit Newcastle – but says he doesn’t care ‘a jot’ for Rafa Benitez’s comments hinting at a return to the club.
The Magpies boss has read the claims of Almiron’s representative, Daniel Campos, who said the Paraguayan would have left already had it not been for Covid-19.
Bruce is also aware that his predecessor Benitez gave an interview this week in which he refused to rule out a return to St James’ Park in the event of a takeover.

Bruce says he doesn’t care ‘a jot’ for Rafa Benitez’s comments hinting at a return to the club
But the current manager said: ‘It doesn’t bother me a jot. Rafa is entitled to talk, whatever he wants to do. Look, he left 18 months ago for his own personal reasons. As far as I’m concerned, I can’t get involved with that. It doesn’t bother me one little bit.’
But the attempt to unsettle Almiron has left Bruce raging.
‘It’s a two-bob agent being amateurish,’ he said. ‘I’d be outraged if my agent came out with those ridiculous comments. Talk about amateurish and a lack of respect.
‘To start with I had a chuckle at them as if to say, “Oh my god, they’re that ridiculous am I really reading this?”. And then he was on a radio station as well. It’s just unbelievable. The two clubs were quite remarkable, what was it, Milan and Atletico Madrid? Are they going to ditch Luis Suarez and Romelu Lukaku, are they? Really, I wonder.
The comments incensed Bruce, who did not hold back and hit out at Almiron’s agent
‘This club has done unbelievable things for Almiron. And the supporters, the way they have been towards him and the patience they have shown towards him, has been unbelievable too.
‘Now if he comes and knocks on the door, then I will listen and treat it with the respect it deserves. And I will (now) have a conversation with him, of course. But a two-bob agent who is trying to make a few quid? I’m sorry, but he’s bang out of order.
‘It is hugely disrespectful to all of us. He’s a great kid, a great pro, the lad, but his agent leaves a lot to be desired.’
Bruce insisted he would have a chat with Almiron later about the comments
Meanwhile, Bruce says he cannot disagree with defender Fabian Schar’s assessment that every Newcastle player was ‘s**t’ during their 2-0 defeat at Southampton last time out.
Newcastle entertain Chelsea this lunchtime, and Bruce said: ‘He was 100 per cent right so I’ve got no qualms with the interview. He was absolutely spot on and we were poor on the night.
‘There was no disputing it and no getting away from it. We’ve had to wait a long time but we’ve got a chance to put it right.’
Almiron’s agent also implied the Paraguay forward was not being played in his best position
