The Indianapolis Colts have acquired cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets in a trade for two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.
Gardner, who has worn No. 1 since being selected as the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will keep his number with the Colts. Consequently, wide receiver Josh Downs will switch from No. 1 to No. 2.
The new number holds a family connection for Downs, as his brother, Caleb, is a standout safety at Ohio State who also wears No. 2.
The number change will be effective for this weekend’s game against the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin.
