Georgetown University football player Dijon Williams has been arrested by U.S. Marshals in Georgia and is a suspect in a first-degree murder case in Washington, D.C., according to Washington, D.C., television station Fox 5.
A senior, Williams, who played at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, Georgia, was taken into custody Monday in nearby Gwinnett County, Fox 5 reported.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, few Georgetown students are on campus. The rest are taking classes remotely. All fall sports have been postponed, and no teams are practicing.
Georgetown has suspended Williams from all team activities in accordance with its policy.
“Georgetown University became aware of charges against Dijon Williams this evening,” the school said in a statement issued Monday. “While we are working to learn more information, we will cooperate fully with any investigation and we stand prepared to offer resources to members of our community who may be affected by this news. At this time, there are no indications that the alleged crime took place near the University.”
Williams appeared in five games last season.
