Gerald Green has announced his retirement as a professional player. The forward, who had been without a team since December 2020 and had not played a game since the 2019 playoffs, has decided to end his career as a player and make the leap to the benches as an assistant, as he will join the staff of the Rockets, the team for which he played his final years. Green, a Houston native, will join the franchise as a player development coach, a job that will be important with a rebuilding roster.
During his time in the league, Gerald was a solid rotation player who was part of great teams like the Rockets of the 17-18 season, who fell one victory away from the NBA Finals. In his 658 league games, he averaged 9.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and played for eight franchises.
However, the aspect in which he stood out the most was when making dunks. His incredible jumping ability made him leave incredible actions, as he was able to suspend himself for a long time in the air and perform his own contest dunks in the middle of the match. We will see if on the benches he also manages to make a mark and carve out a career as an assistant or even as a head coach when the time comes.
