In the action thriller Kandahar, Gerard Butler stars as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative whose mission is dangerously compromised deep within hostile territory in Afghanistan. With his identity exposed, Harris and his loyal Afghan translator, Mohammad “Mo” Doud (Navid Negahban), must fight their way across the desert to an extraction point. The pair faces a perilous journey, hunted by elite enemy forces and a relentless Pakistani intelligence agent, Kahil Nasir, portrayed by Indian actor Ali Fazal.
The film follows Harris after he successfully sabotages an Iranian nuclear facility. Lured by a substantial payout that would secure his daughter’s future, he accepts one last high-stakes assignment. However, when the mission is exposed, it becomes a desperate race for survival. Harris and Mo, who is on a personal quest to find a lost family member, must forge an unlikely alliance, relying on each other to navigate the treacherous landscape and evade capture.
Kandahar marks the third collaboration between Butler and director Ric Roman Waugh, who previously worked together on Angel Has Fallen and Greenland. The story offers a layer of authenticity, as it is loosely inspired by the real-life experiences of screenwriter Mitchell LaFortune, a former military intelligence officer who served in Afghanistan.
