German politician and former Prime Minister of Brandenburg, Matthias Platzik, stressed the need to resume cooperation and mutually beneficial relations between Moscow and Brussels.
In an interview with the RND media network, the German politician called for the start of work on a joint security structure with Russia, based on equality between the two parties.
The former prime minister said, “If this does not happen, then Europe can push the country (Russia) toward further rapprochement with China,” adding that “if the wrong president is elected in the United States again, and this could happen, we may find ourselves, we Europeans, suddenly we are alone in this world. “
He explained that the European Union countries will not be able to solve the complex issues they are facing without the participation of Russia, noting that the current issues include climate change, combating terrorism, the refugee problem, security in the Middle East, and disarmament.
The German politician stressed that the time has come to rethink the sanctions policy towards Moscow, adding that the restrictions have hurt both sides, and also led to the deterioration of political relations and increased the risk of military escalation.
