The German police have strengthened their security measures to protect the federal parliament and its surroundings in the capital, Berlin, after the violent storming of the US Congress building days ago.
Today, Sunday, the German newspaper “Bild am Sonntag” quoted the Speaker of Parliament, Wolfgang Schaeuble, as saying in a letter to the deputies: “The Berlin police have called for an increase in the number of security forces in the area around the Bundestag building.”

The Speaker of Parliament pre-empted this by requesting a report from his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the events of the storming of the US Congress by hundreds of protesters a few days ago, to draw the lesson from these facts and request the strengthening of the security protection of the German Parliament (the Bundestag).
German concerns about the security of Parliament come after several protests near it, interspersed with skirmishes with police and arrests.
