Girlfriend of boy stabbed to death in Cambridge pays tribute to ‘amazing’ teen as two arrested

The girlfriend of a 17-year-old boy stabbed to death in a suspected ‘targeted attack’ has remembered him ‘an angel’.

Jesse Nwokejiobi was knifed at a nature reserve near the river Cam in Cambridge at about 2.50pm on Saturday.

He died at the scene near to Logan’s Meadow a few minutes later. Three teenagers, two aged 14, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nwokejiobi has now been memorialised by his girlfriend Ameliyah Grant, 18.

Speaking last night, Miss Grant told the Mail she was ‘broken’ by Mr Nwokejiobi’s death.

She added: ‘I have no words. There is no amount of memories that will fill this void.

‘This is a nightmare, he didn’t deserve this.

‘His soul was amazing and he had the kindest heart. I feel blessed to have been a part of his story.

‘I’ll miss his smell, his smile, and his beautiful brown eyes. I pray we meet each other in the next life and finish what we started.

‘He was my best friend, my soulmate, my everything. I can’t believe he’s gone.’

Detective Superintendent Carl Foster said: ‘We believe there were members of the public at the scene who spoke to paramedics but left before our officers arrived. I am appealing for them to make contact with us.’

The tragedy occurred days after Cambridgeshire Constabulary launched a week-long knife amnesty to encourage residents to give up their weapons. 

Over the past year, the force has seen knife crime rise by 10 per cent. On Saturday, detectives arrested a boy aged 14 at his home at 11.30pm in connection with the stabbing. 

A 14-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested in South Cambridgeshire at about midnight. 

All three were held in Peterborough on suspicion of murder. Police believe the victim was killed in a ‘targeted attack’.

Yesterday, a mother, who previously lived in the area, said: ‘I am heartbroken as I found out he was someone my son knew a few years ago. I just feel so sorry for the young man and his family.’ 

The woman, who did not want to be named, added: ‘I won’t be letting my son out of my sight at all after this – it’s very frightening.’
