The girlfriend of a murdered businessman who was left to decay in his garage after being brutally bashed on New Year’s Eve has made a desperate plea for his killer to turn himself in to authorities.
Michael Griffey, 45, was brutally bludgeoned to death in the garage of his family’s property in Pakenham, in Melbourne‘s south-east in 2005.
His body, covered in a tarp and a sheet, was only discovered by his wife Diane and daughter Cassandra four days after he died.
The murder of Michael Griffey (pictured) still remains unsolved nearly 15 years after his death
Michael Griffey’s girlfriend at the time of his death, Gillian Goula, is making a desperate plea for the unknown killer to come forward
Fifteen years after his death, Mr Griffey’s girlfriend at the time of his death Gillian Goula is making a desperate plea for the killer to come forward.
‘It’s up to the people who know about it to come forward. Do the right thing. That’s what it boils down to,’ Ms Goula told the Herald Sun.
The case has been labelled unsolvable but investigators believe people who were close to Mr Griffey have the answers as his mobile, wallet and two pages torn from a diary went missing after his death.
Michael’s body had been covered in a tarp and a sheet, and was only discovered by his wife Diane and daughter Cassandra several days later
Diane (pictured outside court in 2006) had charges dropped on Mr Griffey’s death
Diane Griffey and the couple’s son Kenny were arrested in 2008 in connection to Michael’s death, and his teenage daughter Cassandra confessed she was the one who killed her father back in 2007.
Neither of the arrests led to a conviction with all charges dropped and police did not buy Cassandra’s story – who was also not charged with her father’s death.
Kenny has also publicly denied having any involvement with his dad’s death.
Daily Mail Australia does not suggest Diane, Kenny or Cassandra played any part in Mr Griffey’s death.
Nearly a decade on, Ms Gould still hopes justice will be served for her partner of five years.
Ms Gould said although the unknown killer has got away with murder, they would have the burden of dealing with their demons for the rest of their lives.
The couple’s son Kenny (pictured left and right leaving Melbourne’s Magistrates court in 2006) was also arrested but was released without charge. He has publicly denied having any involvement with his dad’s death
Michael’s teen daughter Cassandra (pictured) would later confess that she was responsible for her dad’s death – but police did not buy her story
‘What helps me is that the person involved has to live with their lies, knowing what’s happened,’ Ms Gould said.
Victoria Police said the murder of Michael Griffey ‘remains ongoing’ and any new information would be reviewed.
‘As with many incidents of this nature, over time circumstances may change and someone with information about Michael’s death may now be in a position to come forward,’ a statement said.
