Given greater compliance, women should have better credit conditions: Coparmex

Monterrey, NL. Women who owe a loan to the Infonavit are more compliant with their payments than men, reveals a study published by the Institute. Given this, a differentiated policy should be generated in credit conditions in favor of women, indicated Cecilia Carrillo López, general director of coparmexNew Lion.

“It would be fair for Infonavit to recognize and improve credit conditions for women, and this could even encourage an increase in the purchase of housing by female workers,” he said.

According to Infonavit Quarterly Economic Reporta sample of 381,140 loans granted in 2015 was considered, 65.9% to men and 34.1% to women.

By monitoring the monthly payments of these credits for four years, from 2016 to 2019. That is, in the periods 2016 to 2018 and 2016 to 2019, the evidence is that men have an average of higher incomplete payments than women women.

“The foregoing implies that, after four years from the origination of the loan, on average, men accumulate a greater number of months with incomplete payments in relation to women.”

The number of incomplete payments of men above those of women is 0.08 on average, that is, men have eight more incomplete payments for every 100 payments.

The results were verified, that is, they are robust since they used linear regression models over the period 2016 to 2019, which incorporates control variables.

That is, the study considers the different characteristics between men and women, such as socioeconomic, marital status, credit and housing characteristics, amount granted, infrastructure, equipment, and urban proximity.

On the other hand, figures from Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), indicate that in the country there are 8 million 434,084 women registered as wage earners, that is, with the capacity to request a loan from Infonavit.

On the other hand, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) there are 9.3 million households that are supported by a woman (head of the family).

“I hope that these differences were also applied in favor of women, in the positive that we contribute to the productive activity, to the economy of our country,” stressed Carrillo López.
