The Golden State Warriors won 123-16 on their visit to the Utah Jazz pavilion, ending a six-game winning streak for the team led by Quin Snyder.
Stephen Curry led the pack with 28 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds; followed by Andrew Wigging with 25 points; Otto Porter Jr. added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists; and veteran Andre Iguodala added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists from the bench, including a key triple down the stretch.
It is the second time in less than fifteen days that the Warriors have achieved a very important victory on the road. At Christmas they already beat a direct rival like Phoenix Suns, and this time it was the Jazz, third in the table, and who arrived in top form for the duel.
“It’s a good confidence boost to be in these kinds of scenarios on the road and get victories like this and show how great we can be,” Stephen Curry told ESPN. “Our DNA is based on chasing championships and you have to win games like this to get them,” he added.
At the Jazz, a day after setting his scoring record for the course, Donovan Mitchell had a tough night on pitch with 4 of 19 attempts. The guard added 20 points and 9 assists; his partner Bojan Bogdanovic added another 20; and the Frenchman Rudy Gobert had a double-double with 20 points and 19 rebounds.
«I liked many of my releases. They are the same shots that I did not even 24 hours ago. I can’t count how many times the ball went in and out. Those nights are going to happen. They’re not all going to go in all the time, “admitted Donovan Mitchell.
The Jazz, who trailed fourteen points at halftime, rejoined the game thanks to an impressive 22-41 run in the third quarter. However, the Warriors would again make up lost ground by scoring on seven consecutive possessions through an inspired Andrew Wiggins.
And with a tie on the scoreboard at 111 after an action by Bojan Bogdanovic; Stephen Curry responded with a triple and his teammate Andre Iguodala delivered the final blow with another triple that put the definitive advantage for Oakland with 40 seconds left (119-112).
“And they did a great job moving the ball, coming up towards us defensively and making us feel uncomfortable controlling that third quarter. But that also takes a lot of energy. The advantage we had at halftime forced them to go all out in that third quarter and they did. But I think we were a lot cooler in the last period, “explained Steve Kerr.
