GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger Reveals ‘Fear’ If Trump Is Identified Not Guilty

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) disclosed his “fear” if previous President Donald Trump is not charged and convicted for his steps associated to the Capitol insurrection.

In an job interview with CNN in which he mirrored on his work with the Home Jan. 6 pick out committee and his departure from Congress, Kinzinger expressed fear that failure to maintain Trump accountable would set a perilous bar for potential leaders.

“If he is not guilty of a crime, then I frankly dread for the future of this place, mainly because now each individual long term president can say, ‘Hey, here’s the bar.’ And the bar is do all the things you can to stay in energy,” he explained to CNN’s Dana Bash.

Kinzinger famous he is not “a law firm, not a Justice Division guy” and was talking his own viewpoint, but explained it is evident Trump’s steps ended up problematic “from a presidential standpoint, from an oath point of view.”

“As we’ve gotten into this, I look, and I’m like, yeah, if this is not a criminal offense, I do not know what is,” he explained. “If a president can incite an insurrection and not be held accountable, then really, there’s no restrict to what a president can do, or can not do.”

On Dec. 22, the Jan. 6 committee produced its final report on Trump’s attempts to remain in energy right after dropping the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden. The committee also not long ago introduced transcripts of interviews it done with persons near to Trump, together with Donald Trump Jr., his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle and Trump’s previous adviser Stephen Miller.

The committee referred four legal costs against Trump to the Department of Justice on Dec. 19. But in Oct, Kinzinger explained “the torch has been passed” previously to the DOJ and the American persons.

“Because we’re stating, ‘Here’s what the deal is, now it’s up to you to halt this from, A, happening once again, and really choose handle as a self-governing state,” he told ABC. “What type of a country do you want to are living in? Kinzinger is a single of four associates of the committee who will not be returning for the 118th Congress, which will convene on Tuesday. Kinzinger declared in Oct. 2021 he would not search for reelection. Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.) also announced in 2021 she would not operate all over again. Two other members misplaced races ― Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) dropped her key, and Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) misplaced to her Republican opponent in the common election.
