Greek health authorities announced the registration of a case of allergy to the “Pfizer” vaccine against the Coronavirus, which was approved by the European Union authorities.
The Secretary-General of Primary Health Care, Marius Themistocleus, confirmed, during a meeting of the Greek Ministry of Health, on Monday, that “471 people were vaccinated in 5 hospitals in Athens until 16:00 Monday afternoon, and a mild allergy was detected, and it was successfully controlled.”
For her part, the head of the National Immunization Committee, Maria Theodoredo, indicated that allergy to vaccines is extremely rare, and there may be 1.3 cases of allergy per million doses, adding that allergy is not considered a contraindication to the use of the vaccine. She emphasized that every medical center has drugs to treat any allergies.
Themistocleus stated that the vaccination campaign will continue in several Greek regions on Tuesday, noting that Greece has received 9,750 doses of the “Pfizer” vaccine, and will receive a large batch of the 83,850 vaccine doses on Tuesday.
He added that the major batches of the vaccine will also arrive in January, February and March, and Greece will receive a total of 1.255 million doses of the “Pfizer” vaccine, and plans to obtain 240 thousand doses of the “Moderna” vaccine in the first quarter of 2021, after the approval of the Union European projected on January 6.
