The Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” reported that the Foreign Minister discussed with his American counterpart a file concerning Turkey that remained out of the attention of international politics for a long time.

According to the newspaper, the Greek side’s fears stem from the fact that the plant is being built close to the Greek border, in addition to that the most prominent problem is that “Russian investment and the plans for the nuclear plant will remain secret.”
The Greek foreign minister also highlighted the danger that Akkuyu could become the new “Chernobyl” in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Greek newspaper pointed out that although Ankara has acquired the technology to make nuclear plants for the production of atomic energy, it has also acquired the tools and technology through which to develop a military nuclear arsenal.
The newspaper quoted Greek sources as saying that Turkey is planning to build 3 nuclear power plants, and it will train its nuclear engineers and seek access to the dual-purpose resources, which are fissile elements and equipment for civilian and military use alike.
Among the three planned nuclear power plants, the farthest is the one in Akkuyu, on the southeast coast of Turkey near the city of Mersin, and two other plants are being constructed or planned, in Sinop on the Black Sea and Ignada in Eastern Thrace, also on the sea.
