Greek Professor Elias Musialos said that the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine against the emerging corona virus, showed exceptional effectiveness after only one dose.
He stated that, as of March 2020, by a decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he was appointed as the representative of the Greek government in international organizations in the field of issues related to the Coronavirus.
Musialos added, in an article on his Facebook page, that the first results of the third phase of experiments on the Russian vaccine, “Sputnik V,” published in the British medical journal Lancet, prove its effectiveness.
He said: “The effectiveness of this vaccine, 21 days after receiving the first dose, reached 91.6%.”
The Greek expert stated, that the results of clinical trials show strong protection for this Russian vaccine, more than 87% for all age groups of vaccination participants, regardless of gender.
He said: “This progress report includes, with the data on the third stage, the results of more than 20,000 participants, 75% of whom were vaccinated with the vaccine.”
Musialos, in his article briefly reviews the mechanism of action of the Russian vaccine, also known as Gam-COVID-Vac, explains its differences from the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
He said, “In the past, I was referring to the expected high efficacy of the Russian vaccine. That is why it was considered very important. AstraZeneca’s proposal regarding the use of the new dual vaccine system (using one of the adenoviruses used in the Russian vaccine), in cooperation with the Russian Gamalia Institute).
Earlier, the medical scientific journal The Lancet said that the results of the third phase of clinical trials of the Russian “Sputnik V” anti-corona virus vaccine showed that its effectiveness is more than ninety percent.
