Guadalajara, Jalisco. Representatives of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area participate in the World Summit of Mayors of the C40 Climate Leadership Group, which began this Wednesday and concludes next Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During their participation, Guadalajara officials will share the actions undertaken as part of the Climate Action Plan for the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (Pacmetro), and will seek strategic alliances to learn about good practices and financing models for climate action in the cities that make up this metropolis.
For now, during the summit, the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area was selected by the British government, along with the cities of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Campinas, Brazil, to participate in the Connected Places Catapult program.
British support consists of providing technical assistance to promote innovation, building strategic alliances with the technology sector to accelerate the implementation of mobility and energy projects that are resilient and sustainable.
Such support will go to both local businesses and UK businesses that are best suited “to meet these challenges and it is very important that it is an equitable business partnership. It is a key feature of our way of working”, explained Nicola Yates, executive director of the Catapulta Lugares Conectados program.
During the C40 Mayors Summit, the most effective solutions that have been implemented will be presented so that all members can work together to reduce emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change from cities, responsible for almost 70% of emissions that increase the temperature of the planet.
“Today more than ever we need collaboration between the public, private and civil society sectors to accelerate innovation for cities”, commented, for her part, the director of the Metropolitan Planning Institute (Imeplan), Patricia Martinez.
Within the framework of the summit, the “C40 Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards 2022” were also delivered, where the Nidos de Lluvia program –which seeks to implement a new model of water supply and use in the neighborhoods with the greatest water scarcity– was a finalist in the category “United in building climate resilience”.
