American mobile phone operator T-Mobile announced this Thursday that it was the victim of computer hacking that affected the data of 37 million customers.
The company noted on January 5 that a “malicious actor” had managed to infiltrate its computer system and was diverting information without authorization, a stock filing detailed.
T-Mobile was able to discover the source of the information leak and fix it in 24 hours and estimates that the rest of its systems were not affected. The company later determined that the attack likely began around November 25.
The hacked information includes names, address, email, phone number, date of birth, and T-Mobile account number. It does not include bank card or social security numbers, tax information or passwords.
An internal investigation is ongoing and the authorities have been informed. Affected customers will also be informed.
The company had already been the victim of a major hack in 2021 that affected the data of 76.6 million residents of the United States.
