Around a hundred Haitian migrants demonstrated this Thursday in front of the capital facilities of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (Comar), demanding a streamlining of the procedures that allow a legal stay in Mexican territory.
Given the manifestation of these migrants, the authorities declared that they are committed to speeding up the regularization processes, which will later translate into access to safe and individual services for these people.
The Haitians had previously asked to be attended by a representative of the Comar and also of Migration’s national institute (INM), as they claimed to lack humanitarian visas that will enable legal transit throughout Mexico.
But given the lack of concrete answers, the migrants tried to enter the Comar facilities and this caused police from the Secretariat of Citizen Security They had to intervene.
Then the Secretary of the Interior confirmed that such events occurred due to a demonstration and blockade of access to the Comar office and by persons of Haitian nationality.
Segob also confirmed that the Secretariat of Citizen Security, with the assistance of personnel from the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) as observers, they intervened in order to resume activities on a regular basis and thereby guarantee access to the rights of all users of the services provided by Comar.
Later, the Comar maintained an open dialogue with the people who presented themselves as interlocutors of this group of more than 80 people, whose objective was to ensure that the individualized attention of the cases is maintained.
Meanwhile, they agreed to have a list of names of the people who will be attended to on a case-by-case basis, considering the specific situation of each file, who are most likely to be found in one of the Comar offices in Tapachula, Palenque, Tenosique and Acayucan.
