During the last period, the world turned to different ways to preserve the environment from pollution, whether through recycling waste, recycling old clothes, worn pieces of furniture and other things that can be repaired instead of throwing garbage and increasing the amount of pollution in the world, and this is what Hanan Rashwan and her friend followed Dalia Fattah, who designed eco-friendly bags to preserve them.
Hanan Rashwan, a graduate of the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, talked about her and her friend’s project about designing environmentally friendly bags, as she told “The Seventh Day”: “I was working in Sharm El-Sheikh in a tourism company, but I came back to Cairo and worked in the same field and I was thinking of doing a private project. Biya, and I noticed that there are large quantities of plastic bags in most of the streets dumped in the garbage, and I worked on plastic bags and their damages and how they decompose and affect the environment, and from here the idea came.”

She continued: “I thought of an alternative to the plastic bag, which is a cloth bag. I presented the idea to Dalia, my friend, and she liked the idea, and she agreed to stay with me in the project. Of course, out of my love for fabric and colors, I was the one who chose cheerful colors to encourage people, and we used all kinds of fabric made of Egyptian cotton. We also tried the satin fabric.” Because the most important thing for us was to find an alternative to plastic. A fabric bag of sweet, chic, and very durable colors would remove any amount of purchases and be washed in the washing machine, and could slip into a pocket or handbag without scratching any space.”
And about the people’s reaction to Hanan and Dalia’s bags, she said: “We were worried at first that the bags did not like people, but the opposite happened. We received great interest and demand from everyone, and also, people told us that they were looking for environmentally friendly bags, and this was during the Sharekna Festival. In it, the people’s reaction encouraged us even more. We continue and made canvas bags for children as well, to encourage them when they go shopping with their mother and put what they need in their bags. We made them from the same colors as adult bags, and we made bags in which water is placed.”
And she continued, “We started again to make plain bags with pillow graphics and other colors printed, and we take into account that the prices of bags are affordable, and we are also encouraged more that there is a great trend from the state to educate people about the damages of plastic bags.”
Hanan ended her speech by expressing her wish, saying: “We hope we can help spread the idea of replacing plastic bags with others, and Egypt is classified globally as free of pollution, because our country is beautiful.”
