Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored on his England debut in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Wales, will be hoping to deputise for Kane.
The news will come as a major blow to manager Gareth Southgate, who now fears going into a clash against the team ranked No 1 in the world without his captain and one of the most feared strikers on the planet.
The development will also frustrate Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, who pleaded with Southgate to look after his star striker amid burn-out concerns following Spurs’ energy-sapping start to the season.

It is understood Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker is in line to start as one of the three centre backs in a 3-4-3 formation – a role he filled successfully during England’s euphoric run to the World Cup semi final in 2018.
He is expected to start alongside Harry Maguire and Eric Dier in defence, while Jordan Pickford is set to return in goal following Nick Pope’s impressive performance in the win over Ryan Giggs’ side.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is in line to play at right-wing back with Kieran Trippier, who captained the team on Thursday, expected to start on the opposite flank.
Jordan Henderson, who will captain the team if Kane is out, and Declan Rice should fill the two central midfield slots, while Marcus Rashford, fresh from being awarded an MBE, and Mason Mount are set to to play in advanced roles.
