With New York City immersed in Halloween festivities, Sifan Hassan’s comments about a “beast” on the streets felt particularly fitting. As she prepares for her New York Marathon debut on Sunday, Hassan is keenly aware of the formidable competition she faces in her quest for a fourth Major win.
“Ladies, I’m scared of you,” Hassan admitted while assessing her main rivals.
She highlighted the strength of Sharon Lokedi and Hellen Obiri, noting their crucial experience on the city’s challenging course. “They already did this course and are very strong women. They are very tough.”
Hassan reserved special praise for Obiri, a fellow decorated champion. “Especially Obiri,” she added. “She’s a beast.”
