Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesman for the Turkish presidency, said, Thursday, that Ankara “welcomes” the Baghdad agreement with the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government to permanently end the presence of PKK militants in Sinjar.
He insisted on the importance of stopping all Kurdish armed activities, which he described as “terrorist”, against his country from Iraqi lands.
“The experience of stopping these activities in Sinjar is a first step, just a beginning, and we have expressed our welcome to that, and in conjunction with that, our struggle to end the terrorist attacks on our lands will continue until the end,” he said. This is what the Turkish authorities are working on, he said, in coordination with the central Iraqi government in Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil, without excluding Kali saying the possibility of resorting to a military response to PKK militants in the region if necessary.
On October 9, the central Iraqi government signed an agreement with the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, whereby the central forces would guarantee security in Sinjar, in coordination with the Erbil forces, leading to the existence of all illegal armed organizations in the region, including the armed organization of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). It strikes Turkish interests from northern Iraq. However, local testimonies, according to the Turkish “Anatolia” news agency, confirm that the fighters of this organization did not leave an area.
