The Human Rights Commission of the Chamber of Senators agreed to summon Rosario Piedra Ibarra, president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) to appear before the full chamber.
The Board of Directors of the Upper House will have to define the format, date and time of the appointment, according to the agreement approved since last October 18 and of which the plenary was informed until yesterday, November 3, during the ordinary session.
Of the 10 senators who signed the document, seven voted in favor of the appearance (three from the PAN, two from Morena, one from the PVEM and one independent), two from Morena spoke against it and one Morenoist voted abstention.
Citizen Petitions
The agreement states that last August the Senate received various positions and writings from groups, citizen networks, civil society organizations, as well as human rights defenders for whom they expressed their concern and interest in the actions carried out by the CNDH, “So dialogue with said autonomous body is necessary.”
Among the antecedents, the document refers, on August 19, 2022, the Board of Directors of the Senate received a letter from the networks, organizations and human rights defenders of the collective and citizen initiative 3 of 3 against violence against women, who question the determination made by the CNDH when filing an action of unconstitutionality against decree 504/2022, published in the Official Gazette of the Yucatan government on June 7, which modifies various local regulations on gender violence and food debtors.
Said reforms establish as a requirement not to be a delinquent food debtor to enter the public service of the state public administration, to certain local autonomous constitutional bodies, and to be a candidate or independent candidate for a position of popular election in that federal entity of the country.
And it also details that on August 22 the same internal senatorial body received a letter from the National Women’s Front in which it expresses its concern about the actions carried out by the CNDH, related to dealing with cases of vicarious violence that violate the rights of women. women, girls, boys and adolescents.
