Arcade Fire co-founders Win Butler and Régine Chassagne have announced they are separating after more than 20 years of marriage. In a joint statement, the couple affirmed their commitment to co-parenting their son and continuing their creative partnership within the band.
“They continue to love, admire and support each other,” the statement read. “Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire.” The announcement also confirmed the band intends to tour again soon.
Butler and Chassagne married in 2003, the year before Arcade Fire released their breakout debut album, Funeral. The couple had their son in 2013, shortly before the release of Reflektor.
The separation follows a period of public scrutiny for the couple. In 2022, after the release of their album WE, Butler was publicly accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. While acknowledging extramarital relationships, Butler maintained that all encounters were consensual. At the time, Chassagne released a statement supporting her husband, saying, “I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did.”
Arcade Fire recently completed a tour in support of WE, which concluded this past spring.
