SYRACUSE, N.Y. — This week the lake effect snow, cold and difficult driving conditions are all coming back initially in Northern New York but then returning to Central New York.
We now have lake effect snow warnings in effect for counties east of Lake Ontario for Monday, Monday night, Tuesday and Tuesday night:
Here is the timeline for changing driving conditions now through midweek:
Let’s get right to the county-by-county snow maps from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening:
Tuesday night is when there will be a wind shift from westerly to west northwesterly and eventually northwesterly into Wednesday morning and afternoon. This will bring the lake effect snow band into CNY and change to multiple bands of weaker but persistent snow. This snow combined with temperatures in the teens will not allow the brine and rock salt to be as effective on keeping main roads and highways clear.
Here’s a look at Futurecast for Tuesday night into Wednesday so you know the exact time the snow will begin in Syracuse and when it will weaken:
At this time it is still too early to determine how much snow will fall in Syracuse and CNY, however we will have new snow maps illustrating snow accumulation on Monday and Tuesday for Wednesday so please check back for updates.
Later on this week we will get some relief from the harsh cold and lake effect snow with temperatures once again rising above the freezing mark towards next weekend.
Have a good start to the new week and please allow for extra time, perhaps giving yourself twice as much time to get where you need to go Wednesday morning and afternoon. It is worth noting that the driving conditions on Wednesday in Syracuse and CNY will be similar to what it was like last week on Wednesday and Thursday morning. School delays and a few closings are possible as well.
