After a chance of rain and mild temperatures today, the Harrisburg area is expected to get significant snow on Sunday. It could fall as fast as an inch an hour at some points on Sunday afternoon, the National Weather Service warns.
Central Pennsylvania, including Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, York and Lancaster counties, is under a winter storm watch from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Anywhere from 3 to 7 inches of heavy snow is forecast, the weather service says, and travel could be problematic.
Snow is expected to start around 7 a.m., according to Accuweather, and continue into the night. The Weather Channel is predicting a shorter timeframe for snow showers: from around 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Most schoolchildren won’t have to worry about a snow day Monday, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. It’ll be sunny but very cold. The start of the week will be bitterly cold, with highs in the low 20s and lows in the single digits.
