In a statement issued Thursday evening, Hezbollah said that it “denounces the killing of the political activist Luqman Salim,” and called on “the competent judicial and security agencies to work quickly to discover the perpetrators and punish them.”
He called on “Hezbollah” to “fight mobile crimes in more than one region in Lebanon and the political and media exploitation that accompanies them at the expense of internal security and stability.”
Several security sources and the family of Salim, a prominent Lebanese Shiite activist who criticized “Hezbollah,” reported that he was found killed in a car in the south of the country today, Thursday, in the first such assassination in years.
A judge who is following the case stated that the body had four bullets in the head and one in the back, and one of the security sources said that Salim’s phone was found earlier on the side of a road in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese judiciary has opened an investigation into the circumstances of Salim’s death, and the United Nations Coordinator in Lebanon, Jan Kubi, has called for a prompt and transparent investigation into the accident.
