A man has been rushed to hospital after being crushed by a 250kg rubbish shoot in the middle of a suburban street.

Emergency crews were called to Neutral Bay, in Sydney’s Lower North Shore at 9.30am to reports a man had been pinned beneath a large metal pipe.

Three ambulances and a CareFlight Helicopter were dispatched to Bent Street, where paramedics treated a 25-year-old man for suspected leg, shoulder and rib injuries.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Bystanders rushed to the man’s aid to assist while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

Paramedics, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Police had to work together to extricate him from under the debris.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Dennis Bungener commended bystanders for their efforts and said the man was lucky he did not sustain more serious injuries.

‘It appears a shoot carrying waste from a construction site had dislodged and fallen on top of the man, pinning him underneath,’ he said.

‘It’s an important reminder to take all safety precautions while at work, especially on construction sites.’
